Brief Biography

A nurse for 23 years, Linda began her nursing career as a paediatric nurse on the Burns and Plastic Surgery Unit at The Hospital for Sick Children. Five years later, after completing an in-house operating room program, her career focus turned to perioperative nursing. Linda will mark her 17th year in perioperative nursing this fall.

During her years of clinical practice, Linda’s work experience has included various roles and responsibilities including: general duty staff nurse, charge nurse, departmental and organizational committee member, research study coordinator, RN council chair and treasurer, and Advanced Burn Life Support faculty instructor. Currently, Linda is the Informatics Nurse at SickKids in the Patient Operative Care Unit. In this leadership role she has served as both an educator and mentor to the SickKids operating room nurses as they transitioned into the utilization of computers within the perioperative setting. Just recently Linda worked on the OR project team which developed and implemented the replacement system for the operating room management information system.

Since February 2001, Linda has been a team member on five medical missions with the newly named “NO BOUNDARIES” mission team. Over a period of five years this team has provided surgical care to patient populations in Milagro, Ecuador (February 2001); Da Nang, Vietnam (June 2002 & March 2003); Kathmandu, Nepal (March 2004); Kingston, Jamaica (March 2005): and Cusco, Peru (April 2006). Linda also has an expanded role within the team as treasurer, supply coordinator, and mission fund raiser.

Linda received her nursing diploma from Ryerson Polytechnic Institute in 1983. She completed the SickKids Operating Room In-House Program in 1998. Linda remains committed to her own professional development and life long learning. Her curriculum vitae reflects contributions made to research projects within SickKids, as well as poster presentations and oral presentations at various perioperative conferences and meetings. Linda is proud to demonstrate her commitment to nursing and the specialty of perioperative nursing by being a long standing member of the CNO, RNAO, ONIG, PedNIG, ORNGT, ORNAO, and ORNAC.
