Brief Biography
Dr. Paul Wales is a neonatal and paediatric surgeon at The Hospital for Sick Children. He completed medical school and his general surgery residency at the University of British Columbia. He then completed a Paediatric General Surgery Fellowship at SickKids in Toronto followed by a Master's of Science in Epidemiology at The University of Edinburgh. Dr. Wales joined the Division of General Surgery in 2002.
Clinical Care Activities
Dr. Wales is an active member of the Division of General Surgery and participates in the whole spectrum of congenital and acquired disorders of the newborn and child.

Research Activities
Dr. Wales' main research focus is in the area of short bowel syndrome and intestinal failure. Dr. Wales is the coordinator of the newly developed Group for the Improvement of Intestinal Function and Treatment (GIFT). This group has created a prospective database to allow clinical outcome studies of neonates with intestinal failure. His basic science interests revolve around the role of GLP-2 in gut adaptation and the creation of an animal model for short bowel syndrome.
