Brief Biography

Dr. Sheila Weitzman is a senior staff oncologist in the Division of Haematology/Oncology and Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto. Dr. Weitzman received her undergraduate medical training and postgraduate training in paediatrics in South Africa. Following a haematology/oncology fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children, Dr. Weitzman joined the full-time faculty in the Division. She is currently head of the Division’s leukemia/lymphoma section. Dr. Weitzman is an internationally recognized expert in the field of histiocytic disorders in children and the childhood lymphomas; she has published extensively and has over 140 peer reviewed publications, has written 20 book chapters and has edited a book on histiocytic disorders. Dr. Weitzman is a member of the steering committee of the non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma committee of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) and is a member of the Board of the International Histiocyte society. Dr. Weitzman was the recipient of the Division’s Alvin Zipursky teaching award in 1999 and 2007, the Hospital for Sick Children Claus Wirsig Humanitarian Award in 2000, the Sickkids Richard Rowe award for clinical excellence in 2006, and the Excellence in Post Graduate Medical Education Award from the University of Toronto in 2010.
