Brief Biography

Laura Zahavich has been a genetic counsellor at SickKids since 2009. She received her Master of Science degree in Genetic Counselling from the University of Toronto in 2009 and was certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling in 2010. She has worked in various subspecialty clinics including cleft lip and palate and cancer genetics. She also served as a research genetic counsellor for the Canadian Pediatric Demyelinating Disease Study and as an interprofessional educator focusing on cross-cultural counselling and communication. She currently works in the Labatt Family Heart Centre with a special interest in cardiomyopathies, inherited arrhythmias and connective tissue disorders.  

Zahavich is a lecturer and clinical supervisor in the University of Toronto M.Sc. Program in Genetic Counselling and is actively involved in providing teaching to medical trainees and other interprofessional health care providers.

• Psychosocial responses to results of genetic testing
• Copy number variation of oncogenes/tumour supressors following microarray analysis
