Brief Biography
Dr. Reinhard Zeller is head of the orthopaedic spine service at SickKids. He joined the Divison of Orthopaedic Surgery in October 2006.
His practice focuses on the care of children and adolescents with spinal deformities.
He received his medical degree from the University of Paris and obtained his postgraduate surgical education at the University Hospitals of Paris where he trained with two of the world’s most eminent spine surgeons. He spent most of his professional career in France, having originally trained with Dr. Raymond Roy-Camille. After a fellowship at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas in 1992, he returned to work at the Saint Vincent de Paul Hospital with Dr. Jean Dubousset until he joined The Hospital for Sick Children.
In addition to his clinical training, he received a graduate degree in biomechanics from the ENSAM biomechanics laboratory in Paris and has used this knowledge to develop innovative spinal instrumentation techniques.
He is considered an expert in complex paediatric spine surgery where he developed an international practice traveling to many countries to perform complex spine operations and to speak about paediatric spine surgery.
He is a member of the assistant editorial board of the European Spine Journal and of the editorial board of the Journal of Children’s Orthopaedics. Memberships in organizations include the Scoliosis Research Society (SRS), the International Research Society for Spinal Disorders (IRSSD), the Spine Society of Europe (SSE), the Canadian Spine Society (CSS), the French Scoliosis Study Group (GES), the Paediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA), and the European Paediatric Orthopaedic Society (EPOS). He is currently a member of the 3D Classification Committee, the Morbidity and Mortality Committee of the Scoliosis Research Society and the Program Committee of the European Paediatric Orthopaedic Society.
He was recently elected to join the International Paediatric Orthopaedic Think Tank, a select group of paediatric orthopaedists who are elected based on their demonstrated innovations and leadership in paediatric orthopaedics.
