SickKids Foundation celebrates the 15th year of the Humanitarian Awards

TORONTO - Sick Kids Foundation is celebrating the 15th year of the Humanitarian Awards Program. A ceremony honouring nominees and recipients will be held on Wednesday May 18, 2005 in the Atrium Terrace from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Humanitarian Awards Program, offered by Sick Kids Foundation, honours students, staff and volunteers at Sick Kids Hospital who exemplify the qualities of compassion and humanitarianism that are of critical importance to caregivers at all hospitals but particularly to caregivers at hospitals for children. As one of the leading paediatric academic health science centres in North America, Sick Kids prides itself on the superior level and quality of care that is provided to all its patients and their families. Through its Humanitarian Awards Program, consisting of the Student Humanitarian Awards, the Robert Salter Humanitarian Awards, the Claus Wirsig Humanitarian Award, the Family Advisory Committee Award, and the Volunteer Humanitarian Award, Sick Kids Foundation supports and encourages these standards of care.

Individuals are nominated by their supervisors, their peers or by families who have interacted with them, and a selection committee made up of hospital leaders selects the award winners.
