Latest Round of Canada Research Chairs announced

Strategic investments in research promote innovation

Three researchers at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) will receive support from investments in research excellence announced November 29th by The Honourable Jim Prentice, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for the Canada Research Chairs Program. The announcement included the renewal of Tier I chairs for Dr. Martin Post, senior scientist and head of the Physiology & Experimental Medicine Program and Canada Research Chair in Fetal, Neonatal and Maternal Health, and Dr. Brian Robinson, senior scientist in the Genetics & Genome Biology Program and Canada Research Chair in Vascular and Metabolic Biology. A Tier 2 chair was also renewed for Dr. Lu-Yang Wang, senior scientist in the Neurosciences & Mental Health Program and a Canada Research Chair in Brain and Behaviour.

Prentice described the Canada Research Chairs Program as helping “recruit and retain the most brilliant and promising researchers, helping these institutions become leaders in the fields of advanced science and technology.” Dr. Eliot Phillipson, president and CEO of the Canada Foundation for Innovation added that these investments enhance Canada’s reputation as “a destination of choice for outstanding researchers.”

Additional funding of research infrastructure essential to the work being performed by more than one-third of the chairs was also announced, including infrastructure for Post.
