Lee appointed to steering committee of Chinese research centre

Dr. Shoo Lee, Head, Division of Neonatology, Women's Auxiliary Chair in Neonatology, has been appointed to the steering committee of a major Chinese research centre, a position that will see him advise the institution on its future direction and strategy.

Dr. Shoo Lee was appointed a member of the steering committee for the State Key Laboratory in Neonatal Research. The institution is based in Shanghai but co-ordinates much of China’s research into neonatology.

“My role is to advise them on directions and strategies, and help them build collaborations with other institutions internationally,” says Lee. “For example, we’re planning a grant application to the Canadian Institute for Health Research (CIHR) and the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology for a joint research team to develop novel
approaches to solving neonatal problems.”

The research team would investigate whether herbs used in traditional Chinese medicine could play a role in treating neonatal brain and lung conditions.
