deVeber to receive 2010 Sidney Carter Award

Dr. Gabrielle deVeber, a Staff Neurologist and Scientist in Child Health and Evaluative Studies at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), is the recipient of the 2010 Sidney Carter Award in Child Neurology. The award, presented by the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), recognizes outstanding achievements in the field of child neurology.

The Carter Lectureship, one of AAN’s premier lectures, will be presented by deVeber at the 62nd AAN Annual Meeting on Tuesday, April 13, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

“This award is one of the biggest honours that the academy has to bestow on anyone and is a wonderful reflection upon Gabrielle’s unparalleled competence as a physician-scientist, as well as the Division of Neurology, the Research Institute and SickKids,” says Dr. Carter Snead, Head of Neurology.

deVeber started at SickKids as a part-time consultant and joined full-time as a staff neurologist in the Division of Neurology in 1998. She is currently the Director of the Children’s Stroke Program at SickKids. She also holds grants with the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and a private children’s research foundation.
