Santa’s elves and Maple Leafs join forces for Operation HO HO HO

Taking a break from their final preparations for Christmas, Santa’s elves spent the afternoon at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) spreading holiday joy to patients and their families.

Santa’s sleigh is having its final tune-up before Christmas Eve, so it was up to members of 400 (City of Toronto) Tactical Helicopter Squadron to give Santa’s elves a ride. The winter wonderland-like weather made air travel a bit difficult so the elves arrived by the carload at the University Ave. entrance to the Hospital.

With December 24th, the elves’ busiest day, just two weeks away, Santa’s helpers called upon four strong members of the Toronto Maple Leafs to help deliver presents to SickKids patients.  Leafs players Dion Phaneuf, Luke Schenn, Colton Orr and Tim Brent signed autographs and helped hand out gifts in the SickKids Reading Room.

Decked out in his Leafs jersey with Phaneuf’s name on the back, 12-year-old SickKids patient Paolo was all smiles waiting in line to meet the players. “I was excited just to come down and meet the Leafs,” said Paolo. “The presents were just a bonus!”
