SickKids wins platinum award from OHA for commitment to ensuring a quality health care workplace

Just weeks after being named one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2014, SickKids is clearing room on the awards mantel for another top workplace honour. SickKids has been named a platinum-level award winner of the Quality Healthcare Workplace Award. The award, presented by the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC), recognizes SickKids’ efforts in creating a supportive workplace for health-care professionals to work and thrive.

It’s the third consecutive year that SickKids has won a platinum-level award.

“This is a fantastic achievement for all at SickKids. Winning the Quality Healthcare Workplace Award for three consecutive years and at the platinum level is recognition of the incredible work that our leadership team and our wonderful staff have done over the years – and continue to do today – to make SickKids a great place to be a health professional,” says Mary Jo Haddad, President and CEO, SickKids. “Providing a work environment where staff are supported, engaged, and encouraged to be creative and innovative has an immense impact on the quality of care we provide to our patients and families.”

The Quality Healthcare Workplace Awards program was launched in 2010 to document, recognize and promote effective efforts to improve health care workplaces in ways that contribute to providers’ quality of work life and quality of the care or services. Awards are given at four levels of excellence -- bronze, silver, gold and platinum. The award is designed to help guide health-care organizations in self-evaluation, learning and improvement.

The award was presented to SickKids on Nov. 5 at the OHA’s HealthAchieve 2013 convention and exhibition in Toronto.
