SickKids CEO wins national award

Mary Jo Haddad, President and CEO of The Hospital for Sick Children, is the 2013 recipient of the Contribution to Child Health Award of the Canadian Association of Paediatric Health Centres.

Haddad received her award on Monday, Oct. 21 at the CAPHC annual conference, co-hosted by SickKids, where she made a presentation titled “From Inspiration to Action: Innovation in Children’s Health.”

The honour marks the first time a representative from SickKids has won the prestigious award, established in 2005 by the CAPHC board of directors. The annual award acknowledges an individual who has dedicated their career to making a difference to the lives and well-being of children, youth and families in Canada.

Haddad has worked for SickKids in several capacities since 1984, including as Director of Neonatology and Critical Care, and Vice-President of Child Health Services, before being appointed to her position of President and CEO in 2004.

The conference, which runs Oct. 20-23, is being held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and Intercontinental Hotel and is entitled “Innovations in Children’s Healthcare: from Inspiration to Application.”

It is the largest inter-professional conference in Canada focusing on the child and youth health-care system. More than 400 delegates from across Canada and around the world are attending the event, including senior leaders in children’s health, researchers, policy-makers, front-line practitioners, children, youth and families.
