SickKids receives CIO 100 Award for effective and innovative use of IT

By Kat Kostic

The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) has been selected as a winner in CIO Magazine’s 27th annual CIO 100 Awards.

Every year, 100 organizations across North America and across all industries are identified by CIO Magazine for creating business value through the effective use of IT. This year, SickKids was chosen as one of the innovative organizations.

The competition received more than 380 applications this year, and a team of 42 judges reviewed them to select the final 100 honorees. As one of the winners, SickKids will be included in the August online issue of CIO magazine and receive an award for its achievement in growth and excellence.

The award acknowledges the exceptional work of the IMT portfolio, including work on projects such as a mobile application development framework, a “Bring Your Own Device” strategy strategy (allowing the use of personal device to access corporate data), and the more than 40 mobile apps developed and implemented in the last two years.

Daniela Crivianu-Gaita, Vice President of Information Management and Technology and Chief Information Officer at SickKids, has contributed a great deal to the hospital’s success in IT. She has implemented and evolved innovative technologies that support the SickKids strategic directions. These include medical equipment and information systems. She has also standardized the technology project management processes, while applying project management and portfolio management tools. Crivianu-Gaita is a continual participant in regional, provincial and national e-health initiatives.
