Adolescent Medicine

History

Adolescent Medicine has existed at SickKids since 1969.  In 1986, the Adolescent Medicine “Clinic” at SickKids became a Division within the Department of Paediatrics.

The Division of Adolescent Medicine at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and University of Toronto provides state-of-the-art, comprehensive specialty care to patients, ages 9 to 18 years old. The Division’s interdisciplinary teams have created programs which have successfully combined clinical care, research and educational activities.  Our clinical care is focused on five program areas- Eating Disorders Program, Substance Abuse Program, Young Families Program (YFP), SickKids Inter-professional Team for Youth (SITY) Program and Good 2 Go Transition Program. In May 2007, Adolescent Medicine was recognized as a paediatric subspecialty at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).

In January 2009, accreditation status was granted to the Division of Adolescent Medicine in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto.
