Description of Position:

Resource Laboratory Technologist (Immunohistochemistry)

The incumbent will provide comprehensive technical expertise; provide lead direction and supervision for the Immunohistochemistry Laboratory function. Responsible for the overall quality of the Immunohistochemistry Laboratory.

Primary responsibilities include:
• Perform testing on patient samples and provide technical expertise in the field of Immunohistochemistry.
• Liaise with the Division Manager, Medical Director and other staff to ensure the laboratory adheres to the accredited standards of practice and contributes to the development of best practice.  
• Oversee validation of antibody protocols, administrative maintenance of immunopathology protocols.
• Responsible for assuring that all necessary training of lab staff are met.
• Provide training to technologists, students and clinical fellows and residents.
• Participate and contribute in R&D activities to enhance services in the field of immunoflourescence/immunohistochemistry.
• Develop and maintain policy and procedure that reflect current laboratory practice.
• Documentation control, maintenance and performance of quality assurance.  Materials management, specimen coding and billing, preventative maintenance of equipment and other duties as requested.

Qualifications:

To be considered for this opportunity, you are a certified Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) with preferably an ART or Bachelor of Science degree. Professional registration with the CMLTO is required.   A minimum of five years (within the last 7) experience in Immunohistochemistry is required as well as a strong background in histology.  Master’s degree and/or research experience, and evidence of continuing education in Immunohistochemistry considered an asset.  Demonstrated competencies in analytical skills, team building and written/oral communications are essential.   A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.

Demonstrated competencies in analytical skills, team building and written/oral communications are essential. Solid computer skills an asset.
