High School Co-op Program

Please note: Due to the ongoing pandemic, high-school co-op has been halted for the academic year 2020-2021. Please check back in Spring 2021 for information on the academic year 2021-2022.

The co-op program is an excellent opportunity for high school students 16 years and older to gain a semester of valuable work experience in a Child Life placement (full day) or Administrative placement (half day). Placements are arranged through participating school’s guidance counselor or co-op departments. This is a very competitive program and only 15-18 students are selected per semester.

Eligibility: We welcome applications from high school students enrolled in a semester school from across the various school boards in Ontario. Students must be 16 years of age or older at the start of placement, and be in either Grade 11 or 12.

Applications for all types of placements (half day AM, half day PM, full day) must be submitted through a co-op teacher, and include:

  • Cover letter
  • Resume
  • Credit counselling summary (or equivalent transcript)
  • Two (2) teacher recommendations

Applications for both Semester 1 and 2 will be accepted starting May 1st for the following academic year and will close at the end of the last week in May. Only candidates successful in obtaining an interview will be contacted.

All applications received after June 1st will be reviewed upon receipt for any remaining available placements.

Note: For successful candidates, there is approximately $100 in fees related to registering for a High School Co-op Placement at SickKids (TB testing, uniform fee, etc.)

For any co-operative education teacher interested in learning more, or who would like to submit an application, please contact Volunteer Resources.
