The Centre for Healthy Active Kids is dedicated to improving child health through innovative interdisciplinary research and transformative approaches to clinical care and education. We aim to build a community of practice with integrated knowledge translation about healthy nutrition and physical activity and obesity treatment and prevention.
We are clinicians, educators, students and researchers working together to understand how childhood nutrition, physical activity, behaviour and metabolism affects child health across the weight spectrum. Our cross-cutting themes are relevant for all paediatric health-care disciplines and medical specialties. We engage with other relevant partners in government, public health and community services.
Our clinical program STOMP (SickKids Team Obesity Management Program) provides care to children and adolescents with complex obesity, and is the only paediatric program in Canada offering bariatric surgery to adolescents. Our Early Years Program is a new initiative, partnering with Toronto Public Health to work collaboratively to provide care and education to families with children under 6 years of age with severe obesity.
