Pain Centre
Centre Development History
Pain is one of the most common, debilitating and perplexing symptoms reported by individuals of all ages. Children state that pain is the worst aspect of hospitalization and requires the most improvement in terms of patient care.
In 1989, the first Pain Committee was initiated at SickKids by the late Dr. David Fear. The Acute Pain Service (1992), the Chronic Pain Service (1998), and the Procedural Pain (Satellite Anaesthesia) Initiative (1995) were established to provide a foundation for state-of-the-art specialist pain management. Building on the success of these initiatives, the Centre for Pain Management, Research and Education (Pain Centre) has been added as SickKids seventh and newest centre.
