What we do

The clinical dietitians and lactation consultants at SickKids are integral members of the health care team within their respective programs and actively participate in research projects. The dietitians and LC’s are committed to teaching and to the education of patients, families and staff. Our mission is to provide excellence in nutritional care including:

  • Nutritional assessment and care of paediatric patients
  •  Involvement in paediatric nutrition research

The Department of Nutrition and Food Services

The Department is responsible for patient food services, preparation of specialty feeds including modified human milk, enteral feeds and formulas. In addition, the Department is responsible for catering and Café services. The Terrace Café is the largest restaurant in the city, which includes Branded Retail concepts as well as the Terrace Café’s own Chef’s Corner featuring weekly specials prepared by our team of chefs.

Current initiatives undertaken by this progressive management team include:

  • Development of protocols for collection, storage and distribution of human milk in an institutional setting 
  • Implementation of a "Room Service" model called "Meal train" for all inpatient meals
