Appointments after surgery
Please note: times listed below are approximate. Appointments may vary depending on your child.
The surgery
The surgery takes about 2-3 hours. Your child will stay in the hospital overnight and leave the next day. Most children return to school within 1 week after going home.
1 week after surgery
Tape is removed from the incision made during surgery.
3 weeks after surgery
Your child will receive his or her equipment (speech processor, coil and microphone). Older children may not need this appointment.
4 weeks after surgery - switch-on 1
The cochlear implant device will be turned on (activated).
5 weeks after surgery- switch-on 2
8 weeks after surgery- switch-on 3
(no appointments for 2 months)
3 month MAP
6 month evaluation
9 month MAP
1 year evaluation
Beyond one year:
a MAP every 6 months and an evaluation every year
