Skin pathophysiology and pharmacology: We investigate: (i) The role and mechanism of neurohumoral substances and cytokines released by blood and endothelial cells in local regulation of skin perfusion; and (ii) The efficacy and mechanism of endothelial growth factor and nitric oxide synthase gene therapy in prevention/mitigation of skin ischemia in small and large animal models.
Muscle pathophysiology and pharmacology: We use muscle flaps in large animal models to investigate the mechanism and application of ischemic preconditioning in prevention of skeletal muscle ischemia/reperfusion injury in surgery.
Wound healing: We investigate the pathogenic mechanism and intervention of radiotherapy-induced impaired wound healing.
Our research offers the potential for the identification of therapeutic agents/techniques for prevention and/or treatment of skin and muscle vasospasm and ischemia/reperfusion injury in surgical trauma and prevention of radiotherapy-induced impaired wound healing.
