Vascular Tumour Service (VAST)

The VAST service was launched on February 1, 2006. It has as its focus the diagnosis and management of:

  • diffuse hemangiomatosis or liver hemangiomas withcongestive heart failure and/or abdominal compartment syndrome
  • hemangioendothelioma + Kasabach-Merritt syndrome
  • tufted angioma + Kasabach-Merritt syndrome
  • lymphangioendotheliomatosis

For inpatient consultations, the service functions similarly to other specialized consult teams (e.g. stroke team, thrombosis team); the Hematology /Oncology Service is initially contacted and then the VAST team becomes involved as necessary.

For the outpatient follow-up clinic, the VAST Clinic occurs monthly, on the second Thursday of the month. A Pre- and Post-clinic Meeting is held from1 to 2 p.m.on Thursdays in the IGT Multimedia Room (2810J, Elm Wing).

The team is composed of multiple disciplines, including Dermatology, Paediatric Medicine, Hematology, Oncology, Interventional Radiology, Diagnostic Radiology, Plastic Surgery, Cardiology, Neurology, General Surgery, Pathology and the Angiogenesis Lab.
