What we do

The Hospital for Sick Children's Neonatology Program is part of a tertiary, university-affiliated children's hospital, our responsibilities include patient care, teaching, research and administration.

Care within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is provided by a multidisciplinary team of individuals with expertise in all areas of medicine, nursing, respiratory therapy, nutrition, pharmacology, psychosocial services, rehabilitation medicine and biomedical engineering. This is a reflection of the increasing complexity of clinical problems which result from the increased survival of sicker and smaller babies, the increasing body of scientific knowledge, the increased recognition of the feasibility of surgery for many congenital disorders and the increasingly sophisticated technological support available.

The Neonatology Program is inclusive of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Follow-up Program and the Acute Care Transport Services.
