Nurse Visitor Program
The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is an academic health sciences centre that is dedicated to the education of health-care professionals, staff, and the community. Accordingly, it is the intent of the Centre for Nursing Visitor Program to accommodate the visitation requests of provincial and national nursing professionals and to facilitate the exchange of information with our community partners.
Provincial and national nursing professionals interested in learning more about practice at SickKids can choose from a variety of unique opportunities such as:
- Hospital tour
- Information interview
- Observation experience
- Practice experience
International nursing professionals need to apply through the International Learner Program
Application Information
In order to facilitate the processing of a high number of visitor requests, an application process has been established. To allow adequate planning time, applications must be received a minimum of four weeks prior to the intended visitation date. All requests for nursing visitors need to be presented and approved by the Centre for Nursing. The length of visits will be negotiated by the visitor, the Centre for Nursing, and the accepting unit dependent on the nature and objectives of the visit. Nursing visitors are expected to meet SickKids immunization and surveillance requirements and to sign an agreement to maintain confidentiality at all times. All nursing visitors need to submit a proof of support for their visit from their institution. Please note that nursing visitors applying for practice experiences must carry a professional liability insurance in the amount of 5 million dollars per occurrence provided by their own institution of employment.

If you are interested in practicing nursing while at SickKids and you do not possess a registration to practice nursing in Ontario, you will need to apply for a Special Assignment Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario. Please write to:
