Nursing Student Orientation

Dear Nursing Students,

Welcome to SickKids. Our hospital is one of the largest paediatric academic health science centres in the world. Each year we have approximately 300,000 ambulatory visits, 50,000 emergency department visits and 15,000 admissions. As a result, we are able to offer you a variety of rich clinical experiences in multiple inpatient and ambulatory care settings.

To prepare you for a successful clinical placement and to maximize your learning experience we have developed an online nursing student orientation. The site will introduce you to important principles of paediatric clinical care and to specific policies and procedures followed in our institution. You are required to review the site and complete all the modules prior to the start of your clinical placement. Several of the modules on this website require special login. You will receive instructions with your user ID and password approximately 2 weeks prior to the start of your placement via email.

You may need to set aside five hours or more to thoroughly review the content of the site and we suggest that you do the review over the course of several days as some of the modules are quite extensive. Please complete the medication calculation quiz in preparation your orientation day at SickKids.

We wish you a great learning experience.
