PeLTQL Biliary Atresia Study
PeLTQL Biliary Atresia Study

PeLTQL BA Study

Assessing HRQOL in children who have undergone liver transplantation for Biliary Atresia (BA) with a disease-specific HRQOL tool, followed by an analysis of potential predictors to determine appropriateness for interventions in this cohort, would ultimately open up avenues for improvement.

The Health Related Quality of Life in Children After Liver Transplantation for Biliary Atresia (PeLTQL-BA) Project proposes to make available the PeLTQL (disease-specific tool) accompanying the PedsQLTM 4.0 (generic tool) to recipients of pediatric Liver Transplant for Biliary Atresia in The Hospital for Sick Children in Canada and in different European paediatric institutions. The main goal of this current project is to identify predictors for Health Related Quality of Life in children after liver transplantation and ultimately become a quality of life improvement opportunity for this patient population as well as at the individual level.

This project was approved at The Hospital for Sick Children as a Quality Improvement activity by the Quality & Risk Management Department (2014).

Specific aims

  1. To administer a PeLTQL Questionnaire to selected children with BA who have undergone liver transplantation at participating ChilSFree centers.
  2. To evaluate differences in PeLTQL total scores in paediatric liver transplant for BA between different participating countries.
  3.  To identify predictors for HRQOL in children surviving liver transplantation for BA.
