Palliative and Bereavement Care

Palliative care is sometimes also called comfort care, supportive care, end of life care or hospice care.  At The Hospital for Sick Children, palliative care for children and families is a special type of care that tries to prevent, relieve, reduce or soothe the symptoms that go along with serious medical conditions or their treatment.  Palliative care is also about helping children and families maintain a good quality of life.

Palliative care is a special type of care that includes physical, emotional, spiritual and practical care for children with a life threatening condition and their families. Palliative care is available to children and their families from the time of a serious diagnosis, through the illness journey, during a child's end of life and during the family's grieving.
