Active Families Research Project
Active Families Research Program

Study groups

Each participant in the study will do both of the research activities: the information session and the demonstration session.

The information session will share physical activity information including the child’s activity preferences and recommendations from the child’s cardiologist. Each family will be given physical activity recommendations and hear stories about other children born with heart problems and activities they like to do. Some of the information will include the benefits of physical activity, background information on games and how to play different sports.

The demonstration session will allow us to show you what your child can do. By participating in many different activities and discussing test results with the family, participants and families will have a better understanding of the fitness level and physical capabilities of the child born with a heart problem. Each child will perform a treadmill exercise test after which a results discussion will take place to review the child’s performance compared to other children.
