Encouraging toddler development

The Toddler Development project was created to work with families who have toddlers born with complex congenital heart defects. Children who have had the arterial switch operation or the Glenn procedure have been invited to participate in this project.

The purpose of this study was to find out whether parents are able to deliver a neurodevelopmental rehabilitation program through specific activities and games with their infant at home. The activities and games were designed to help these children develop movement skills and hand-eye coordination at the expected age.

The project was designed to answer the following questions:

  • Does a home-based neurodevelopmental rehabilitation program help infants who have had cardiac surgery to achieve age appropriate motor skills?
  • Can parents deliver a home-based neurodevelopmental rehabilitation program to their infants?

Results of the study along with poster presentations are available in the results section.
