Mass Spectrometry

The SPARC BioCentre makes use of state of the art mass spectrometry instrumentation to help you understand the proteins in your biological systems.  We have been providing these services (as the Advanced Protein Technology Centre) for over 10 years at The Hospital for Sick Children and are staffed by experienced researchers and technicians.  The newest high-resolution instruments allow us to resolve very complex samples to identify and quantitate the proteins contained therein.

We can identify proteins in a variety of matrices, including proteins in solution, 1D or 2D gel bands and cell or tissue lysates.  The results can as simple as a list of the proteins in the sample, or can involve relative or absolute quantitation.  The types of experiments that we run on a routine basis span from initial discovery projects to validation assays in a large number of biological replicates.

Our staff is willing to discuss these technologies with you and your staff, work with you during the planning and protocol development stages, work with you to understand the results obtained and help during manuscript preparation when publishing your results.  The professional consultations are all part of the service.
