ADHD/LD Cognition Lab

The ADHD/LD Cognition Lab is directed by Rosemary Tannock, PhD, Senior Scientist at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). Tannock is also a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto and a Professor of Special Education & Adaptive Instruction at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto.

Our research is dedicated to the understanding and treatment of cognitive dysfunctions underlying Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and related neurodevelopmental disorders, such as Reading Disorder (Dyslexia), Communication Disorders, and Anxiety Disorders. Thus we integrate our research with systematic clinical assessment and patient care, utilizing state-of-the-art clinical resources of SickKids in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Our mission is to bridge the gaps between science, clinical practice, and academic instruction.

Our research studies include a combination of behavioral, academic, perceptual, and cognitive methods and involve both normally-developing and clinical populations of children and adolescents. Interdisciplinary training is provided for post-doctoral fellows, graduate and undergraduate students from various fields, including clinical, developmental, and cognitive psychology; education; speech-language pathology; linguistics; neuroscience, and medicine. International links include the European Network on Hyperkinetic Disorder; NIMH Interdisciplinary Research Network on ADHD (USA), the Centre for Attention and Related Disorders at the University of Western Australia, and the Centre for Advanced Studies in Oslo, Norway.

Canadian Institutes of Health Research, National Institutes of Health, Canadian Language & Literacy Research Network, International Dyslexia Association, Ontario Mental Health Foundation, and SickKids Psychiatry Endowment Fund provide funding.
