Clinical services

The mandate of the Visual Electrophysiology Unit is to provide world class visual, electrophysiological and visual function evaluation for a complex paediatric population.


VEU staff are trained to meet exceptional standards. The two principal testers are certified orthoptists and have trained with experienced electrophysiologists.

Success Rate and Statistics

Specific testing protocols are chosen according to working diagnosis as well as cooperation or ability of the child. The success rate for Visual Electrophysiological Assessment on complex paediatric patients is very high (98 per cent).  Approximately six hundred patients are tested every year.

Visual Electrophysiology Assessments at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) are all conducted according to the International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (http://www.iscev.org).
