Visual Electophysiology (VEU)

The Visual Electrophysiology Unit at The Hospital for Sick Children (VEU), under the directorship of Dr. Carol Westall, provides a comprehensive range of electrodiagnostic services. We receive patients from not only the immediate metropolitan area and surroundings, but also act as a major referral centre for children of all ages from other parts of Canada and the USA as well.

All testing is performed in accordance with the recommendations of the International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (ISCEV) and often exceeds them. As well as providing clinical service the unit is involved in many ongoing research studies which vary from refining technical aspects of testing to comprehensive studies of visual development in compromised and normal visual systems. Graduate students, post doctoral fellows, ophthalmology fellows, residents and lab staff are involved in these research studies.

Volunteering

The Visual Electrophysiology Unit in the eye clinic at The Hospital for Sick Children is looking for participants aged eight weeks to 80 years with no known eye problems to take part in our ongoing research projects. To learn more, visit the Careers and Volunteering section.
