Always call SCAN before coming down to the hospital, so that a suitable plan can be worked out with those involved.
A SCAN team member will determine the urgency of the case and when the child or teenager will be seen. The child or teenager may be seen by a trained nurse, nurse practitioner, social worker, psychologist or physician.
Children who have been sexually abused and require urgent care will be seen and cared for by a sexual assault nurse examiner, who is a nurse specially trained in sexual abuse.
Children who have an appointment in the SCAN Clinic will be physically examined by a doctor or nurse practitioner from the program. There will be an opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns with a SCAN social worker or psychologist.
