Who we are
The Department of Social Work at SickKids employs over 50 staff in its provision of services to children and families, performing a wide range of functions from psychosocial support, counseling, and instrumental support, to student teaching and research. Social workers are members of interdisciplinary teams that provide clinical services to children, adolescents, and families of the hospital.
SickKids social workers are graduate-trained clinicians who promote resilience, enhance coping and capacity, and provide expertise at the intersection of mental and physical health in children, youth and families receiving services at the hospital. SickKids social workers are leaders in providing evidence-informed clinical assessment, intervention, consultation and teaching and contribute to innovative research. Building strong therapeutic relationships and working from a strengths-based, child and family centred, systems perspective, SickKids social workers are mental health professionals who work collaboratively with children, youth, families, the health-care team and the broader community to improve the lives of those facing health-care challenges.
