Trauma program
The Trauma Program at The Hospital for Sick Children was established in 1989 with a mandate to provide quality patient care to our trauma patients. We are a lead trauma hospital, meaning we are responsible to ensure high-level care for patients with serious trauma and to provide leadership in the areas of injury prevention, trauma research and trauma education. We treat over 900 trauma patients per year.
In February 2006, the trauma program was awarded a five year Accreditation with Distinction by the Trauma Association of Canada.
Who we are
The Trauma Program is an interdisciplinary team under the leadership of Dr. Andrew Howard (Administrative Director), Dr. Paul Wales (Clinical Director) and Krista Cauz (Child Health Services Director).
What we do
The Interdisciplinary Trauma Team works cohesively to provide the best care to the patient and family during their hospital stay and to determine the need for follow-up services in the community.
