INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP APPLICANTS

Thank you for your interest in our Paediatric Urology Fellowship Program.

As an international medical graduate applicant there are a few options in terms of the type of fellowship you can apply for.  We no longer have a traditional application deadline, and therefore accept applications at any time, as long as they are submitted at least 6 months prior to the anticipated start date.

Research Fellowship:  The Division of Urology offers a post-residency research fellowship to candidates who intend to pursue a career in academic urology. This program provides an opportunity for fellows to conduct clinical and/or basic science research in areas related to pediatric urology while working under the guidance of a research mentor. Please refer to our staff physician page for details on our team’s individual research interests. It is expected that the fellow will participate in the design, planning, and conduct of the research. While past research experience is not a requirement, it is desirable. Applicants are encouraged to secure funding to improve their opportunity of obtaining a research fellowship. Research fellowships can range from six months to two years.

Clinical Fellowship:  Our clinical fellowship is generally two years in length with the first year being a clinical year and the second year being a hybrid year of clinical and research cantered around the long term goals and career planning of each fellow. As an international medical graduate applicant you may be required to be partially or fully funded by your institution during your fellowship.

These competitive positions require a personal interview usually held in the spring, one year before the potential start date. Applicants are strongly advised to complete an observership prior to the anticipated start date, please refer to the observership page for more details on how to apply.

Research (80%), Clinical (20%) Fellowship: Research/clinical fellowships generally start for the first three to six months as solely research (see research fellowship description above), but with the opportunity to take on a clinical portion once the fellow has fully integrated into the division and has demonstrated some key clinical strengths needed.  Fellows will then have up to 20 per cent of their time devoted to patient care activities to help maintain their clinical skills.
