The Department of Bioethics was initiated in January 1991 as an academically grounded and clinically focused ethics service. SickKids is affiliated with the University of Toronto Joint Centre for Bioethics.

Our roles include education of bioethics students and health care professionals (both those in practice and in training), research, policy preparation and dissemination, participation in the life and culture of the organization in a variety of ways, and involvement in the bioethics community more broadly. Our consultation service is available to all patients, family members, patient's legal guardian, students or trainees, volunteers and SickKids staff.
