Other Funding Options
The following are not covered through the Assistive Devices Program (ADP):
- Helmets (plagiocophaly/protective)
For a full list of orthoses covered by the Ministry of Health see the ADP website.
You are required to pay for 50 per cent of the cost of your orthosis on the day of your initial (casting) appointment and the remaining 50 per cent at your follow up (fitting) appointment. Orthoses not covered by ADP may be covered by extended health insurance, social assistance or charitable organizations.
Extended health insurance
Some extended health insurance plans will pay for some or all of the cost of your orthosis not covered by ADP. Simply pay the cost at our clinic and we will issue you a receipt that you can submit to your insurance company.
If you are receiving social assistance benefits under Ontario Works (OW), Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) or Assistance to Children with Severe Disabilities (ACSD), the cost of the orthosis may be paid for by these agencies. If your child is a patient at SickKids, speak to your clinic nurse or social worker for more information. For patients not affiliated with SickKids, please speak to your health-care professional. Proof is required if you are receiving social assistance benefits.
