Welcome to the Empower™ Reading program! Empower™ Reading was developed by Dr. Maureen W. Lovett and her team of educators and psychology professionals in the Learning Disabilities Research Program (LDRP) at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). SickKids is an internationally-recognized pediatric health-care and research institution, whose mandate is supported and delivered through programs like Empower™ Reading.
Empower™ Reading offers a comprehensive approach to teaching children, adolescents and adults with various levels of reading disabilities, the skills needed to analyze text, decode words, and successfully learn to read and gain knowledge from written materials.
Empower™ Reading is the culmination of 30 years of research that rigorously evaluated what constitutes effective programming for students with significant reading difficulties. Empower™ Reading consists of four modules and transforms children and adolescents with significant reading and spelling difficulties into strategic, independent, and flexible learners.
Certified Empower™ Reading trainers provide training, coaching, and mentoring to teachers and educators across Canada and the United States. The success of the program is proven through the recorded results.
This research has been, and continues to be, supported by operating grants from the most competitive funding agencies in the United States and Canada (e.g., NIH, IES, CIHR, SSHRC).
