Recognizing Bioethics Week from November 6-10

Each November, the Bioethics Department at SickKids organizes a week-long event to focus awareness on bioethical issues. This year, Bioethics Week at SickKids is from November 6 to 10. All sessions are open to everyone staff, patients and families. 

There are 16 events addressing ethical issues in the care of children, youth and families. Check out the full schedule of events.​ 

Rounds topics will address various ethical issues, related to: 

  • ​the rise of consumerism in health care 
  • alternative science facts in popular culture
  • privilege and oppression
  • global health 
  • allocation of ECMO 
  • unchartered genetics territory 
  • discharge against medical advice 
  • shared decision-making, access to and through mental health and addiction systems 
  • teen brain development and adolescent decision making 
  • prioritization in the OR 
  • deceased directed donation 
  • family-centred care
  • and more!

About the Bioethics Department

The Bioethics Department at SickKids assists patients, families, staff and trainees in identifying, analyzing and addressing ethical issues that arise in clinical, organizational, educational and research domains.
