Assessing Impacts on Adolescent Health and Nutrition Outcomes through a Global Investigators Group evaluating Nutrition Intervention Trials

Principal investigator: Dr. Zulfiqar A.Bhutta, Inaugural Robert Harding Chair in Global Child Health at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), Toronto, Co-Director of the SickKids Centre for Global Child Health and the Founding Director of the Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health at the Aga Khan University.

Adolescent females undergo rapid physical and cognitive changes and therefore require higher nutrient needs in preparation for their reproductive years. However, there is a significant information gap on nutrition and reproductive health for this population. The project aims to identify and collect datasets on micronutrients intervention trials on adolescent and young adult females from low-middle income countries. An individual patient data (IPD) or aggregate level pooled meta-analysis will be subsequently conducted to identify risk factors and outcomes in relation to health, survival, and nutritional status of adolescent girls compared to older women.
