Medical directives review
We identified that there was no single standard for this hospital process and needed to build our own. Directives are reviewed using a checklist, using the ‘PASS Rule’, developed to provide a baseline for critical appraisal.
All directives are reviewed using a review checklist, developed to assist reviewers with the critical appraisal of medical directives. We appoint ‘Lead Clinical Reviewers’ who work with assigned MDC members for a review, working with the MDC Co-Chairs. After, they meet with the directive authors, providing them with a ‘Review Worksheet’ that details approval requirements. This provides clear instructions on what is needed for approval and ongoing management.
These tools give a consistent and comprehensive approach, while establishing transparency in the review process.
