Test Name

Complex II

Alternate Name/ Synonym

  • Succinate DCIP Reductase

Division

Mitochondrial Disease

Method

Spectrophotometric Measurements at 600nm

Turn Around Time

  • Fibroblasts, amniocyte. CVS cells:  3 weeks - 3 months
  • Tissue Biopsies: Fresh - 5 business days

Disease/Condition

  • SDH Deficiency

Specimen Type

  • Fibroblasts
  • Muscle
  • Liver
  • Kidney
  • Heart amniocyte
  • CVS Cell Cultures

Minimum Specimen Requirements

  • 1 dish for subculturing
  • 0 dishes for mitochondrial isolation

Optimal Collection Time

  • For fibroblasts, amniocytes or CVS cell cultures: anytime
  • Fresh biopsy: until 2:30pm,  Monday-Friday

Reference Range

  • Muscle mitochondria: 107.66-230.11 nmol/mg/min

Interpretation

DCIP assays are very prone to interference from NAD(P)H diaphorases. Caution is recommended in interpreting results from non-muscle tissue, rich in diaphorase.
