To determine the activity of mitochondrial Complex II in muscle mitochondria or suspension of cultured human skin fibroblasts.

Minimum Specimen Requirements

  • 1 dish for subculturing
  • 0 dishes for mitochondrial isolation

Optimal Collection Time

  • For fibroblasts, amniocytes or CVS cell cultures: anytime
  • Fresh biopsy: until 2:30pm,  Monday-Friday


  • For fibroblasts, amniocytes or CVS cell cultures: Room temperature
  • Fresh muscle biopsy: transport from Pathology in dish on ice

Reference Range

  • Muscle mitochondria: 107.66-230.11 nmol/mg/min


DCIP assays are very prone to interference from NAD(P)H diaphorases. Caution is recommended in interpreting results from non-muscle tissue, rich in diaphorase.
