Cytogenetics Laboratory
The Cytogenetics Laboratory specializes in the genomic analysis of paediatric specimens, referred for a wide range of constitutional conditions and cancer diagnosis and management.
The laboratory has expertise in molecular cytogenetics analysis and offers a large variety of FISH tests.
The Cytogenetics Laboratory currently provides:
- Genomic microarray analysis on an Agilent 180K custom designed platform.
- The design is based on the International Standard for Microarray Consortium (ISCA) design.
- The oligonucleotide probe coverage is enriched (approximately 20 to 50 kb resolution) in genomic regions associated with known genetic conditions causing developmental delay, mental retardation and/or multiple congenital abnormalities.
- The remainder of the euchromatic genome is interrogated with a resolution of approximately 100 kb.
- Effective March 1st 2011, SickKids will accept specimens for genomic microarray testing. For further information see What’s New.
- Extensive testing for the SickKids Haematology/Oncology program
We are a Children’s Oncology Group (COG)-Approved laboratory.
The laboratory is unique in the province in having a substantial caseload of specialized testing for the chromosome instability syndromes.
