Children's Council

Kids Helping Kids

The Children’s Council is a group of 20 patients and siblings, ages nine to 17, who work together to make SickKids a better place. Their goal is to bring the child and youth voice and perspective to SickKids programs and projects. They provide feedback to hospital initiatives, and lead projects that make the patient and family experience better.

Here are some examples of projects the council has worked on:

  • Participated in developing a video to educate staff on how to best communicate with children.
  • Provided feedback on naming our spaces as well as the types of programs to offer for children and their families.
  • Shared ideas and input for AboutKidsHealth webpages.
  • Developed an orientation process and manual for new child advisors.
  • Created a video educating volunteers on how to interact with patients on the units.
  • Advocated for different ways to gain patient feedback.
  • Created teen events.
  • And so much more! Every meeting and every year is different!
