Education, research and administration
Professional education and training have become an integral part of the SickKids Telemedicine program. Clinicians can meet regularly for a variety of educational activities, including broadcasting rounds, journal clubs and case presentations to colleagues. Telemedicine can also be used to conduct administrative- and research-based meetings with your colleagues in the province, country and around the world.
Education sessions may involve two centres (point-to-point), or more than two centres connected at one time (multi-point). The real advantage of using videoconferencing for education is that entire programs and multi-disciplinary teams from different institutions can participate in a single event.
Telemedicine can also be used to conduct administrative- and research-based sessions. These sessions may also involve two or more centres. Some examples of these meetings are fellow interviews and discussing research findings with colleagues around the world. The ability to connect with teams from different regions enriches communication for everyone involved.
SickKids Telemedicine is able to offer Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) webcasting for sessions you wish to attend as a passive participant. Participants can log-in from any desktop or laptop with a compatible browser to watch live or archived sessions on line.
