SickKids president elected chair of Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario

Mary Jo Haddad, President and CEO, SickKids, has been elected chair of the Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario (CAHO). Haddad will lead CAHO for a two-year term, effective immediately. The announcement was made at the CAHO annual meeting on May 29.

The Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario is an organization representing Ontario’s 25 academic hospitals and their research institutes, affiliated with five university medical/health sciences schools.

“Chairing CAHO is an honour, as this is a platform to influence and strengthen the unique role of academic health science centres in Ontario," says Haddad. "It’s a wonderful opportunity to work with some of the brightest minds in the sector, leaders who are dedicated to working together to enhance our academic mission and improving our systems of health care, a vision that aligns directly with SickKids' strategic directions."

CAHO's Council, predominantly composed of chief executive officers from the 25 member hospitals, provides strategic oversight to all CAHO committees and task forces, and works directly with the government to improve the health-care system.
