SickKids is committed to championing equity, diversity and inclusion in all that we do, fostering an intentionally inclusive and culturally safe environment that reflects the diversity of the patients, families and communities we serve. Guided by the SickKids Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy, every day we strive to be a workplace where everyone has an equal opportunity to grow, develop and succeed, at all levels. An inclusive SickKids where every patient, caregiver, employee, colleague, learner, volunteer and member of the general public can feel acknowledged, valued and respected.

Recruiting and hiring inclusively

At the heart of our approach to advancing an inclusive SickKids is our commitment to equity and inclusion throughout a career at SickKids, including before you get here. Inclusive recruitment actively recognizes diversity and embraces how a diverse workforce enriches our workplace and creates inclusion and belonging.

As an employer, we are working to ensuring more equitable access to job opportunities through our recruitment and talent advisory processes and supporting leaders to prioritize inclusivity in every talent search.

EDI best practices are embedded throughout the recruitment and hiring process at SickKids, known as the Inclusive Recruitment Pathway, including:

  • Expanding recruitment areas and job boards to broaden reach for prospective employees;
  • Designing more inclusive job postings and recruitment experiences that focus on essential requirements, competencies and nice-to-haves to improve expanded access to opportunities;
  • Providing ongoing training opportunities and resources on best practices for hiring managers to enable more inclusive recruitment and hiring; and
  • Ensuring awareness of and access to accessibility and accommodation supports.

Through our efforts, we’re working to address the challenges experienced by equity priority groups through the development of data-driven recruitment tools and removal of institutional barriers that deny equitable career opportunities, aligned with the priorities identified in the SickKids EDI Strategy.
