Critical Care Medicine

Critical Care Canada Forum

This large conference, that attracts up to 1,000 participants each year, is organized through the University of Toronto and originated from the Critical Care Conference at The Hospital for Sick Children many years ago. It is currently chaired by Dr. Brian Kavanagh (Critical Care, SickKids) and addresses all aspects of adult and paediatric critical care medicine, through an interdisciplinary perspective, over three days each year. This is widely acknowledged to be the best critical care conference in Canada and among the best in the world. Conference dates for 2016 are October 30 to November 2.  See website for more.

Annual World Congress of Pediatric Critical Care

International and national speakers gather to talk about what is new in critical care. See the Annual World Congress on Pediatric Critical Care website for more.

Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society

Congenital heart disease is the most common birth defect, but there have been great advances in the treatment of children with cardiovascular disorders. These strides have produced a remarkable reduction in mortality, and have expanded the boundaries of complexity for what is considered a treatable disease.

In many paediatric centres, cardiovascular disease is the single largest category of patients in a critical care unit. Specialization of care for these patients requires personnel with skills and knowledge that are derived from many disciplines, not confined to critical care, cardiology, cardiac surgery or anesthesia.  PCICS promotes excellence in paediatric cardiac critical care medicine.

Visit the PCICS website for more details.
